Portrait of Youssef Ahmed

Base Camp

I'm a second-year Computer Science and Statistics student at UBC. I like taking messy, real-world data and building something useful on top of it, from benchmarking student performance across national datasets to forecasting transit surges from 21.5M cell-tower pings.

Right now I'm building analytics and AWS infrastructure at Seen Education. I'm looking for co-op roles in data, ML, and cloud engineering.

Hobbies

Off the clock I'm usually on the water, or under it.

  1. Youssef on a boat at sea, smiling and holding up a long silver fish he caught

    Fishing

Happiest with a rod in hand, waiting on a bite. That's my rowboat in the lagoon.

  2. Two spearguns in the shallows beside four fish from the day's dive

    Spearfishing

One breath, one shot: hunting my own dinner below the surface.

  3. Youssef's pedal fishing kayak, rigged with rods and a landing net, pulled up on a sandy shore

    Kayak fishing

Paddling out past the shore break to where the bigger fish are.

  4. Youssef wakeboarding behind a boat, holding the tow rope as spray flies off the wake

    Wakeboarding

Carving back and forth across the wake behind the boat.

  5. Youssef in a green helmet and goggles giving a thumbs-up on a ski slope, snowy mountains behind

    Skiing

When winter comes, I trade the sea for the slopes.

  6. A turquoise river rushing over rocks through a misty, forested canyon

    Hiking

Chasing views on the trails around Vancouver.

  7. A tray of slow-roasted lamb pieces on golden spiced rice and vermicelli

    Cooking

From the day's catch to slow-roasted lamb over spiced rice.
